Car insurance companies to fast-track Kerala flood claims

Four state-owned (PSU) general insurance companies have stated that they are ready to fast-track settlement processes for claims made due to the floods in the state of Kerala. National Insurance, New India Assurance, Oriental Insurance and United India Insurance – who also supply car insurance schemes – have made a joint statement saying that they are geared-up to receive claim intimations and ensure smooth and expeditious settlements.

Private-owned Reliance General Insurance has also stated via Twitter that they have simplified their claims process and have additionally sourced Malayalam-speaking staff to better aid customers.

These statements have been made with regard to an Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) directive issued on August 17, 2018, which asked insurers to expedite the settlement of all registered and eligible life-insurance claims related to the floods in Kerala.

Technical Department Heads and General Managers of the PSUs meet today, August 22, to align processes to conform to current guidelines and makes adjustments to see to the requirements in the context of the Kerala floods.

The insurance claims predominantly being made from the state, as of now, are related to vehicles, property and cattle.
