Latest On Toyota Yaris
Toyota has launched the Yaris with a starting price of Rs 8.75 lakh ex-showroom India. Toyota's first C-segment in India will be available in four variants, namely J, G, V and VX and each variant will be available in a CVT guise as well. The difference between the manual and its equivalent CVT variants is about Rs 1.2 lakh and the top of the line VX CVT variant is priced at Rs 14.07 lakh ex-showroom India and is the only variant to feature paddle shifters.
The Toyota Yaris is the Japanese carmaker’s first-ever offering in the Indian C-sedan segment which is currently dominated by the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna. And when compared to its competition, the Yaris packs a little extra to take them on. However, it does lose out on some features too. Let’s take a look at them, shall we?
For starters, Toyota has equipped the Yaris with a tonne of safety features as standard across the range. All four variants get seven airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, central lockingandISOFIX child seat mounts as standard. The higher variants even gethill-startassist, vehicle stability control, front and rear parking sensors, front and rear fog lamps and a rear camera too.
The Yaris is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine. Yes, there’s no diesel motor available and Toyota isn’t likely to offer one at a later stage as well. The petrol motor shares its block with the Etios’ 1.5-litre unit. However, it gets variable valve timing, which takes the total power output to 107PS. The motor is refined and barely audible. The ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency figures are 17.1kmpl for the manual and 17.8kmpl for the CVT-equipped version.
