Lanzante to unveil McLaren P1 GT Longtail at Goodwood

The famous engineering firm, Lanzante, has developed a McLaren P1 GT which is due to be unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, next week. Previewed in a single image, the hybrid hypercar is inspired by the iconic 1997 F1 GT 'Longtail' – the homologated road-going version of the GTR endurance race car.

Lanzante’s newest creation is the latest in a long line of uprated and race-prepared McLarens. The P1 GT was commissioned by a Middle-Eastern customer and gains an all-new aerodynamic package, which including a fixed rear wing mounted on a lengthened tail.

The boost in downforce provided by the wing is expected to be matched by an enhanced powertrain performance. Lanzante’s last enhanced P1 – the P1 LM – retained the 999hp-producing turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 and electric powertrain seen on the P1 GTR. A more extreme model could edge this engine's output towards 1,014hp.

Lanzante could also reduce the weight of the P1 GT using similar measures employed on its P1 LM. That car was 60kg lighter than the P1 GTR. It used exhaust headers and catalytic convertor pipes made from Inconel to shave 4.5kg off the car's weight. Meanwhile, race parts such as the air jack system were removed.

More details of Lanzante's P1 GT will be announced at its reveal.
