Jaguar Land Rover India registers 66 percent half-yearly sales increase

Jaguar Land Rover India has announced it sold 2579 units in the first half of 2018. The sales figure represents a 66 percent year-on-year sales increase for JLR in India.

2018 has proved to be a positive year for luxury carmakers in India with BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and now JLR reporting sales growths in the first half of the year. Mercedes is leading the charge with sales of 8061 cars in the Jan-June period. BMW (and Mini) have also registered record half year sales shifting 5171 units in the period. Volvo has also seen volumes grow by a third with sales of 1242 units in the first six months of this year. Audi India has so far not released its sales figures.

JLR officials we spoke with said the sales spilt between Jaguar and Land Rover is near 50-50 with models like the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Jaguar XE and Jaguar F-Pace being the volume drivers for the carmaker in India.

Globally, JLR has been in the news of late over concerns of the impact of Brexit on the carmaker’s operations. JLR boss Ralph Speth has spoken of the possibility of shifting production out of the UK should the cost dynamic change drastically following Brexit.
