BMW X1 facelift spied testing

BMW’s refreshed X1 has been spotted wearing camouflage only at the front and rear, which reveals that the mid-life facelift of the smallest BMW SUV gets some design-based changes.

In terms of front-end styling, the camouflaged bits seem to hide the headlamps and bumper, which are expected to emulate those found on the new range of SUVs from the German carmaker – the X2, X3, X4 and X5. You can expect the headlights to be more angular and the bumper to sport larger air intakes.

The sides of the X1 facelift are expected to be carried forward with no discernible changes; although seeing a different design for the alloy wheels is almost a certainty. The rear styling will also be more or less the same as the current model, albeit with changes to the tail-lamp and rear bumper.

While the spy images do not show the inside of the car, expect BMW to equip the refreshed X1 with more equipment, such as a fully-digital instrument cluster.

In the Chinese market, the X1 is available with 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre petrol and diesel powertrains, as well as a plug-in hybrid. The brand has not yet revealed whether the powertrain range will be updated for that market.

The India-spec model is powered by a 190hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The facelift model is expected to arrive in India sometime during the next year.
